I don’t know about you, but when I hear this phrase, that usually means that some harsh truths are about to emerge. “The elephant in the room,” is finally getting addressed.
If you haven’t guessed already, this is exactly what our goal is here. How I arrived at this title was not as grand of a story as you would like. I sat on my couch, wracking my brain for some sort of introduction to the book I wanted to write. First, I identified my purpose: to help guide others on their healing journey. Next, I identified the content: collected works of poetry I had been sitting on for years and think pieces that identify what the journey is. Finally, the title: …
I panicked (slightly) and had been texting my boyfriend in an excitement that I still can’t explain to this day. His wisdom to me: “Take a pause. Let it come to you. Don’t try to force it.”
In less than a day, I had the title for the blog and for the book.
Here we are today. This blog is the gateway to the book I will be working on throughout the year (Yes, I am withholding the title until about Christmas).
This is where we address our issues head on. We are identifying that “elephant in the room,” and letting it all out. This is a necessary step before reaching our healing space. This space is created to release our pain and everything else that has kept us from reaching that peaceful place. This is the space to express the ugliness we don’t often want others to see; to deal with truths that are often very hard to swallow.
“Clearing the air” is acknowledging the issue and beginning to do something about it. This is the beginning of the healing journey, and the one we often try to ignore the most. By denying ourselves the opportunity to deal with the less than, we are robbing ourselves of the greater than.
Healing is an everyday occurrence, and we can only get there by taking the first step. Take the plunge, and don’t forget: we’re all in this together.
The healing journey itself will be discussed later in the book. 😉
Stay tuned!
