Today’s posts will be a beginning of a discussion thread of sorts.
I recently posted something on Twitter (you can follow me @healingcmpanion) and asked the question: “What’s something that you wished someone told you when you were going through?”
I asked a similar question on my personal Facebook page and got a number of the same, and yet different, responses:
- “It’s okay to cry.”
- “Nothing stays the same forever. Not even good feelings. Bad feelings are no different.”
- “I care and I’m here for you.”
- “It’s ok to be human, to have emotions/feelings and to have bad days as long as they outweigh your good days.”
- A friend said that he wished he could have told himself to “listen to others that were giving him healing words and words of encouragement.”
- A list from another friend said: “1. It’s not your fault. 2. Let me help you get out of this. 3. Let me go through it with you. 4. You are valuable and usable.”
Although I don’t quite like the word “usable,” I understand what my friend is saying. Many people don’t often get told how they contribute to a team, or to anything in a persons life. I can only imagine the kind of joy and comfort we would have felt had we heard these words at the times we needed them most.
If you haven’t heard these words yet, I am posting them here so that you know that there are some of us here ready to say it to you.
Think of how can you pay it forward. Who do you think needs your words the most right now? What would you have wanted someone to say to you when you most needed it?
